Timeframe between surgery and radiation :)

Hi

I was just wondering if I could get some feedback on the time frame from surgery to radiation treatment.

I had surgery last Friday just gone and see my surgeon next Tuesday for my results.

My daughter is trying to work out as she has come over from London, so some feedback on other peoples time rames would be appreciated. :)

Cheers, Karen :)

  • Thanks everyone appreciate your feedback.

It gives me a good general idea, knowing that it won't be for few weeks at least, so that helps.

  • The time frames for me were 3 weeks from surgery to chemo and then 3 weeks from chemo to radiation.  Not sure what it would be from surgery to radiation.  Maureen

Hi Kazz, I'm having chemo I between surgery and before radiation. My breast care nurse said that it varies with everyone what order treatments happen. My chemo ends in July, and will only have a 3 week transition into radiation. I guess it depends on how quickly your wound heals. Best of luck with your treatment, Tracey B ??

  • Hi there I had lumpectomy in August 2013 at a private hospital and then waited for radiation at Peter Mac public October 2013.  They have guidelines for when radiation has to commence but the waiting was tricky: lovely place though.  I would do this again as great to have a local radiation service as you go daily etc.  best wishes

  • Depending on whether you are public or private. I waited 4 months and you will find they have a planning day where they measure you, place small tattoos to guide the radiation areas to be treated and this is before the treatment. Good luck

  • Hi Karen, they like you to heal properly so you'd wait at least 4wks before radiation. It also depends on any infections or seromas as well.I don't think they like you to wait much more than 9 wks post op so it'll most likely be  between 4-9wks at a guess but ask your rad oncologist cos sometimes there can be a big wait. • Hi Karen

As far as I know it's 6wks,  that's what I've been told anyway.  I have my surgery next week.  Good luck work your results.
