Time for Tamoxifen
Haven't put a blog up for ages and thought I should as lots has happened. Think I have been enjoying reading other people's blogs and adding my comments and sort of forgetting about my progress.
I finished radiation on11th Feb and managed to get through it with intact skin and minimal discomfort. The area is very brown but fading fast am still putting on cream and taking good care of it.
My hair is back although short don't need the wig anymore, had more or less abandoned it as it was just too hot! even had to have my legs and other bits waxed!
We went off to NZ for a wedding in Queenstown on Feb18th which was great fun. Brian came home from there and I went up to Auckland to catch up with a lot of friends and stay with my sister on Mon 21st. imagine my horror the next day when the earthquake happened. The bridal couple live in Christchurch so hurriedly texted them they were in the city centre having lunch but were fine. Their 4 year old had luckily stayed in Queenstown with her grandparents so was not subjected to the tremors, she had been quite upset in the Sept quake by all the after shakes. It just shows you how precious our lives are and we must make the most of every day. I could not believe the devastation such a lovely city - gone.
Caught up with 2 friends the next day who have also had BC since I left NZ . That's us in our pink headwear in my profile picture (I'm the in the peach top). We've all had different treatments and are all travelling our own journeys but are very united in our support for one another. Neither of them have this kind of network in NZ or have joined any type of support groups/ coffee groups and I feel they are really missing out. It was a great day lots of wine was consummed lots of stories told and lots of laughter, tears at the end when we had to say goodbye.
Back to Brisbane and home to Brian and Max (7yr old schnauzer). Off to appointments. Surgeon was happy except he found my thyroid is enlarged so am off to get an ultrasound of my neck on Fri was reassured it's not malignant! Saw oncology and am now on tamoxifen. Have taken it for 4 days and so far so good. Am taking half a tab for 2 weeks before I take the full dose. Also taking some Vit D as my blood value was a bit low. Might get rid of the aching joints doctor thought it was due to lack of oestrogen have to see.
Best part is I can go back to work week commencing 4th April initially 3 shifts a week until I feel able to do the 4th. The girls at work are very excited! Think I'll be a bit slower than I was.
All in all I don't feel too bad just bit tired.
Rock on every one.
