Thoughts

http://nymag.com/thecut/2014/08/avoiding-the-breast-cancer-warrior-trap.html The above is an article I read recently, it made me stop and think, it made me sad too. I was thinking had Amy Robach turned her case of BC round and used it to gain publicity for herself, a career leg up on a news story with a new angle ( news anchor does mammogram on air, finds BC, wow the news channels went wild for that human interest story I bet). But then does it really matter? I can see where the author of the article is coming from though. The truth is that even when you win, you lose in so many ways with cancer, it bruises your soul. It leaves you afraid, your family are left picking up the pieces with the very mention of the word bringing a panicked look to their eyes. You do what you have to in order to get through what at times feels like being in your own personal hell. There's always a feeling of guilt there when I look at those who are not having successful outcomes. The fact is that you get wrapped up in fighting because sometime anger is the only energy you have. If you don't turn it round and use it, it destroys you and you become bitter, meaning the cancer wins on yet another level. I think what I'm trying to say is that just because I'm battling I don't consider others to have given up. We're all just trying to get through this the best we can, offering a bit help to others where we can, be it a kind word or gesture, and being grateful for the kindnesses we receive in turn.

  • No me neither Kez za. I could just about manage to roll off the couch and make a cuppa though!
  • Thanks for sharing this article.   I am not sure about the terms used to describe people who are dealing with/recovering from/in throes of treatment for breast cancer.  I have finished radiation and started tamoxifen about two months ago and I certainly don't feel like running up those stairs like Rocky Balboa did.
