This too shall pass.

Feeling a wee bit reflective today. It is one year since a dear friend and work colleague passed away. She was actually a breast cancer survivor of 8 years when she died but she died of heart disease. She was such a help to me when I was diagnosed. She instilled the mantra "this too shall pass" into me when things got a bit much for me.

So those of you who know me, know that I have had two triple negative diagnosis. The first 5 1/2 years ago and the second just over 4 years ago(recurrence). I had a positive node with the first diagnosis which messes with my head on days like today. I have just had my four year check up and my lovely breast surgeon has always kept a very close eye on me since the recurrence so he ordered a cat scan(just routine) for today. I know it was just routine but as you lie on that bed with your arms above your head and feel that dye go through you it all comes rushing back. Just for a moment. However my beautiful 16 year old daughter who is wise beyond her years told me to imagine my dear friend with me whilst I was in there. So that's just what I did. I repeated the mantra "this too shall pass" and it did.

I then spent the morning with two other dear friends who also knew my friend who passed. We had a few laughs, the odd tear but generally remembered her fondly. Who knows what tomorrow brings and so I will continue to live for today and when faced with hurdles will remember...

"This too shall pass"

hugs to all you great ladies.

  • Hi Paula,

Cyber hug.  Know exactly what you mean - my TNBC 3 year checkup with the breast surgeon's associate is next week.  Always feel nervous and probably always will, and have a mantra similar to your friend's. Congratulations on the last 4 years!   You are a good role model! xxx  Michelle

  • Thanks Rowdy. Good luck with the scan.

  • Hi Paula, thanks for your beautiful post. It is such a calming mantra and I'll be reflecting on it next week too when I have my 3 year mammogram & ultrasound.  Best wishes to one and all. Jane xx

  • I will remember this when I have my heart scan next week.
