This started as a joke !!!
Hi everyone - have been on the site for over 6 months now, and have just realised how seldom I actually "post a blog" .... too busy meeting and greeting and generally talking to everyone.
How do you all like my PINK tractor ... isn't she gorgeous??? This all started as a joke last Novermber. A friend of ours saw me at the local fish'n'chip shop in Nov 10 and asked me what I was doing "next year". He said, why don't we paint a tractor pink and you can drive it in the tractor rally in July. I said "ok ... what ever" and thought no more about it. In January I met him and one of his tractor buddies at the Postoffice and they said ..... "we've organised your tractor!!!".
In a nutshell, this is what is happening. On 22nd July there is a 60k Tractor Trek (from Red Cliffs Vic to wentworth NSW) organised by the Tractor Restoration & Appreciation Club Sunraysia, then on Saturday we have the Great Wentworth Tactor Rally from Wentworth to Wentworth via Curlwaa, Dareton and Ellerslie ... about 100k round trip. On the Sunday there will be various sites around town where we can park and I can set up an info table. I have also been asked to speak at one of the functions being held.
The Tractor Rally is held every 5 years to commemorate the role that the tractor played in saving the townships of Wentworth and others along the Murray River during the 1956 floods.
The organisers of the Trek and the Rally have been so supportive, from painting the tractor, organising the paperwork etc, and giving me tractor driving lessons, Hopefully there will be over 100 tractors from NSW, Vic, S.A, and it is envisaged that every driver will have a pink poncho or jacket of sorts, and each tractor entry number will have our Pink Lady on the number plate. It will be quite a site believe me!!!
There will be a few of us driving so it will be a lot of fun. We took the tractor up to the Pooncarie Field Day on the weekend and she casusd quite a stir. Heaps of photos were taken and there will be a spread in a couple of weekly newspapers. We have also been interviewed by ABC radio. Hopefully we can get some publicity further afield ... will have to get WIN TV organised too !!!
If anyone is on facebook .... go to the Beacon BCNA page and check out all the pics.
This is definately another challenge ... just a warm-up for October (organising a Girls Night In, Mini Field of Women and Golf Day .... among other things !!!!!)
Take care everyone ....
Cheers .. Shirl XxX
