omg celeste that is deplorable!!! my local centrelink actually was good about it. i only have to put in forms once every few months to report any income and i dont have to look for work until at least july. you should put in a complaint!

Hi Celeste. When I was diagnosed with stage 2 Breast Cancer in 2000, I was seen by a Centrelink Doctor. He told me that I wasn't sick enough for a sickness benefit. I had to look for work and hand in forms every fortnight while undergoing treatment. I often had to wait in long queues while I was handing my forms in. A Friend of mine rang Centrelink and they told her to tell me to ask for either of two people and they would take my forms. Eventually, I recieved a letter to see another Doctor and I then recieved a sickness benefit which made things easier. It was especially hard while I was puting in forms as I was doing it solo and getting to treatments was expensive as I couldn't claim any benefits. It is time Centrelink reconsidered their ideas and had some compassion and consideration for Cancer patients.
- Hi Celeste I had a bad Centrelink experience a few years ago on a different sort of matter, but I discovered that the best way to deal with it is to write to the Minister! If the office gets a ministerial complaint they have to investigate - in my situation I got an apology from the office manager and the staff member was counseled - didn't really change anything but gave me a small sense of satisfaction at having gotten an apology from the bureaucrats! What an idiot! I'm so sorry you had to deal with such an insensitive person! I think the incident should be reported. Maybe Centrelink might actually start thinking about training their staff to deal more appropriately with situations like this.

i can't believe what i just read celeste, i am so sorry you had to listen to such and insensitive man!!....just so he can 'put it on the system'..i think you should report his behaviour to senior staff at the office he works at...if they don't know what happened they can't address the situation and imagine how he treats others too!!
we all have to deal with our emotions on a daily basis and when we have to start ticking off the boxes like sorting income, appointments etc it never lets us forget what we are dealing with...as another advanced cancer gal i truly understand all of this and some days it doesn't take a lot to rattle us or send us into a low..
Keep smiling that gorgeous smile and don't let him get to you-tell his boss and at least u may feel like there could be some repercussions for him
