Third time lucky - Surgery no. 3

Well unfortunately the Radiologist did not agree with my surgeon and I am to go back in for further surgery on Thursday to increase the 1mm clear margin.  Totally understand why they are wanting to do it now that they have put it in words I understand.  The cancer is aggressive and invasive so they want to help increase the risk of re-occurence.  Again am thinking I should have had a mastectomy but I am trusting in my health 'team' and they all think this was the best way to go due to my age, size of cancer and my health & fitness.

In other news all my bone scans & ct scans came back clear :) :) :)

I have had my first consult with the oncologist, as he was a temp he didn't commit to much but I did get a few questions answered.  Back to see the regular oncologist next Tuesday (hoping the surgery results will be back and then we will have a treatment plan)

Seeing the Radiologist today and having a heart test to see if it can handle chemo.

Hugs to all xx

  • If you can get away with a lumpectomy instead of a mastectomy that's a fantastic result. A much easier surgery and you get to keep most of your breast. This is good news! Sure a third surgery is hard but worth it in the long run. I hope all goes well.

  • Hi Rene, good luck with the 3rd surgery, if it's better at reducing that risk of recurrence, then it's the way to go... benefits of having a team working together eh ??

Hi Rene, that must be so frustrating for you to go back for more surgery, I guess that's the beauty of a treatment team, as they are just making sure that you're as clear as possible before starting your other treatments. That's excellent news that your bone scans and other tests are clear ??. You'll feel heaps better once you get moving with your treatments and then you can plan ahead for the new normal, whatever that is. Sending you a big cuddle, and wishing you well for your next surgery, Trace ??????
