There are some wonderful people in this world

Today I had coffee with a friend I have known for twenty years. For all that time her hair has been so long she could sit on it. It was her trademark look, she really felt for me when my long hair fell out with chemo.  This wonderful women wanted to do something to help those with cancer. So she braved up, had her beautiful hair cut off and sent to the Cancer Council to make a wig for someone else in need. I nearly cried. What a beautiful thing to do for a complete stranger.

How about you? Do you too have stories about wonderful acts of kindness? Kinda restores your faith that life can still be good even though we struggle with this awful disease.

  • Emma,

My hairdresser did the same for me. So thoughtful and kind. She text me ever now and then during chemo to see how I was going. So kind unlike my so called best friend who to this day never rang me or even visited . And that's been 2 years now- must be because  she lives so far away  - 3 houses away!

  • There really are some down to earth very thoughtful people in this world. Great stories, thanks for sharing.

  • Hi Tracey,

A good friend of ours has been doing this for years! HE, yes HE has perfectly straight hair and it's the perfect colour they look for so up until about a year ago, he always had hair down to his butt! Even his daughter wanted to do the same thing and she was only 3 at the time!

He used to have a little ritual party to cut of the ponytail and then send it off for wig making..

In times like this, we all often wonder what if anything can we do to help?Donating your hair is an amazing and selfless thing to do and you should be proud of your friend and she should also be proud of herself!

    Xx

  • Hi Tracey,

What a wonderful story.  My hairdresser was so lovely, after my mastectomy (when I couldn't lift my arm above my head) she would wash and blow dry my hair twice a week free of charge and kept on doing it even when I could lift my arms.  She also cut my hair shorter in stages and shaved off the last annoying bits after it all fell out. She is such a kind hearted person and really helped me through out the whole cancer experience.
