Today I chose my new hair. If I was choosing hair for a fancy dress it would have been fun. I didn't realise how confronting it would be, it becomes more real.

- Thank you Vicky! It is getting really thin now and I am at the point where I need to wear a hat in public. I haven't donned my wig yet though. It is just perched on top of my chest of drawers! Guess that will be the next big step! Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for your nice comment it cheered me before I go off to chemo today. I hope you are coping well and managing to get your head around this hair business. Xxxxx

Once a few hairs started falling out I got my hair shaved off and was the best thing to do as my head felt dirty and dull.My wig was great thanks to the Alice Springs Wig Library. My hair is growing back and do not need to wear anything now but having it shaved was not issue for me at all but understand anyone who finds it confronting. Lucky our hair does grow back.
it is so hot having covering on your head, I almost never wore it at home, only when we had guests and through the coldest of winter.
As women so much of our identity seems to be tied with our hair and its silly really. However at the beginning it is daunting, I would never have imagined that I would go shopping with a buzz cut so to speak. You are right to be proud Robyn, you are a survivor and have lived through things that many just can't even imagine.
Just today at work a lady whom I only know as a nodding acquaintance stopped me and said I love that you changed your hair it looks so much nicer now that its short and not straightened..................oh dear do I tell her or not, I chose not.

- I never wanted a wig,but I loved my scarves,turbans and bandanas,just like Donna.After my last chemo,1 week before Xmas,I made the decision not to wear head coverings any more.It was so hot,and I figured that if I can go without at home,I can do it out! It was the best thing that happened to me throughout my 'journey'.The first day was weird,but after that,I loved it and still do.I actually feel strong and proud getting around without any head covering .Cheers xoxRobyn

- Felt awful this morning about my hair situation it was everywhere all over the floor, sink, pillow . . . I took myself off to a randomly selected hairdressers. Actually it was the only one I found seeing it was Monday! Anyway, they were so nice in there and spent ages chopping away at my hair. Now it's as short as possible and I am feeling soooooooo much better. No more tears! I have cried myself dry :) I have changed my profile pic to show the new me :) sigh Gil xxxx
- I cried and cried. Husband shaved mine New Years Day in Saigon. Harder than losing my breast! BUT. It grows back. Xx Julie

I've only got a few days before mine will start shedding, am planning to wear scarves. Julie thank you for the reminder, BC does not define me, I have to admit though that I am still very teary at the thought of loosing my hair. So with you Vicki, very confronting.
