The waiting game!

Good afternoon ladies. I've read and re-read all of your posts with great interest and apprehension. A few months ago I noticed a small sore on my left breast (areola region) below my nipple (my favourite one). It was cracked, flaking and bleeding a little with a yellow/cream discharge. I caked it with an antiseptic cream for a few days, thinking it was just maybe a bindy from mowing the lawn or an ingrown hair.

Within 2 weeks it had doubled in size, but did appear to be improving some what (not scabbing/flaking). It was still very red though, not sore to touch and leaving my bra a mess every day. I still have stabbing like pain within my breast at times. After visiting my local GP she suggested a mammogram and altrasound with some blood tests. Everything come back clear. Woohoo. My Doctor then puts me on antibiotics and cream saying that it's an infection of some sort. This week I went back to her for a check up. The lesion has now tripled in size, still oozing this stuff and at times I still have the stabbing pain on the inside.

Following a referal to a specialist, I'm now booked in for a surgical biopsy under general anaesthetic with a rather hot surgeon. I'm only 44 yrs old, but from what I've read through your thread bloody cancer doesn't discriminate.

I had never heard of Paget's until I googled about the biopsy procedure today. And then googled some more and found you lot.

Am I worrying for bloody nothing?

In reading your stories I find a lot of similarities, have people experienced such rapid increase in size of their sores/lesions?

  • Such a worry for you - but you've done all you can to get to the bottom of this breast"infection".It could even be an abscess.I've seen them and they can become large and take ages to heal. The waiting game is the pits so just keep busy till biopsy day.I hope it all goes smoothly for you and that it's NOT cancer.Big hug, Tonya xx
