The story so far!

Im 33 and was diagnosed with triple negative grade 3 in my right breast one month ago.     I had lumpectomy surgery two weeks ago and had genetic testing yesterday to see whether I have a gene mutation.    I am in the process of going through fertility treatment to freeze eggs (just in case chemo has any effect on my reproductive system).   I am due to start chemo early May.   From what I understand, Chemo will consist of two components - Dore Dense AC fortnightly for six months and Taxane - Pacitaxel weekly for twelve weeks.   I am really anxious about chemo but I keep reminding myself that this is not forever and once I get through it I’ll be a stronger and a better version of myself.   Depending on the outcome of the genetic test, I will need to consider radiation or mastectomy but for now I think its best I take it one day at a time.   Feel free to contact me if you would like to keep in touch and share experiences

  • Its funny Jennim but my surgeon offered for me to have the genetic testing straight away. I was on such a roller coaster that i decided I could not deal with that straight away so put it off for a little while. After finding today that i am Triple negative have decided it is time to find this out. Will not get the results until after chemotherapy is finished

  • Hi Amandag....it is good to see that you have genetic testing straight away..my onc put mine off and off and only just getting tested a year out from finishing chemo and rads...pretty annoyed.  Am tnbc so worried that I had all that radiation.  Where are you getting treatment?

  • 33 is so young!  Sorry to hear you have to go through this too.  If it helps I can share my experience. I am a bit older, 57 when diagnosed with the grade 3 TNBC.  Lumpectomy, 4 weeks to recover then into AC chemo for 12 months followed by Paciaxel every week for 12 weeks.  The AC would make me very tired and when I got home, I slept if off.  It would take about 9 days to wear out of the system and then I got my energy back again.  The Pacitaxel was no problem except my toes got numb towards the end.  I carry the gene mutation so had to make decisions about my future but that waited until I had finished chemo. I agree with you about taking it one day at a time. The path rolls out as you take the next step. It did change my life and I'm a better person now too! I wish you a speedy treatment, x
