The arm aches and can feel heavy if you have lympodema beginning to build up. Other signs are jewelry (rings for example) becoming tight. If you are at all concerned about your arm it might be a good idea to see a lymphoedema trained physio or nurse or if you have access to a lymphoedema clinic nearby go there for assessment. Lymphoedema can begin even many years after your original surgery. There is a lot you can do if you get onto it early and/or to prevent it becoming a problem.
My early intervention appears to be working with my arm measurements stable after 2 months of self maintenance. I just give myself a daily massage, do some deep breathing exercises, maintain my weight and exercise a lot. The only time I need to wear a compression sleeve is for high risk activities like flying.
