Reading back over your comments and from my own experience too, it seems there are 3 things which could be improved to do with the issue of lymphoedema.
1. Early education and prevention. It seems some surgeons underestimate the risk and there is no standard of referral to a lymphedema specialist physio or nurse who could monitor and educate for lymphoedema as well as help with recovery from surgery. This should happen for everyone as no one can say why some people who have only had one or two nodes removed get lymphoedema and others who have had 30 removed never get it. Until we know more everyone deserves the opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills to help prevent it.
2. Cost. It would seem that the burden of paying for treatment and garments is too high.
3. Availability of qualified physios/nurses, particularly in regional areas.
We can at least try through posts on here to raise awareness of the risks and what can be done to minimize these.
It sounds like a lot is being done to hopefully improve these issues, thanks Carol.
