I totally agree that there is a lack of rehab or medical support to recover and adjust after treatment for breast cancer. I wonder if this is the same for all cancers though? Maybe it has something to do with the differing treatment paths and the length of treatment for many people.
Rehab after surgery or diagnosis of other conditions can be started soon after the event. On-going treatment such as chemo can make it more difficult to identify the point where rehab or other support would be best initiated.
Having treatment for lymphoedema has opened my eyes to the sort of medical support that could really benefit all of us (physio, OT etc). Many issues could be minimized or avoided completely if everyone was assessed and given appropriate support and education. The health system seems to concentrate only on the medical treatment for the cancer itself and not the quality of life of the individual afterwards. I know that I have had to actively seek help with recovery or I would be still struggling I'm sure.
