thanks Karen will look further into it. Yes! drains are gone. feel free again.physically im healing well! emotionally im struggling. My partner is incredibly supportive and doesnt even recognise them as scars he represents them as LIFE xxx

Hi Melissa , if you Google BRAVA you will find quite a lot of info ...there is a PS in Miami who has done a lot and it's now in its earlier stages in Brisbane and I think they are doing a trial at FMC here in Adelaide . One of the ladies on the breast recon group is having it ...have you joined that group ? It's a really useful resource for looking at all the different recon options . Basically from what I understand you wear a Babarella style top which has suction applied to form a matrix where your breasts were ( takes 3 or so months I think , might be longer ) then they perform an autologous Fat transfer ( fat from somewhere else in your body ), apparently fat which doesn't fluctuate with your body weight much is the best , like at the top inside thigh or around the back of your bottom etc.....we all have those little special "no budge " places ! The benefits of this technique are that it doesn't involve any surgery or the introduction of anything foreign but that's really all I know ...I'm sure if you can find the lady on the breast recon forum she will be able to tell you heaps more about it !! Karen what is the BRAVA technique? I havent heard of it before. I too have no body fat so expanders and inplants are my only option xxMel

I had a bilateral masectomy just over two years ago and I have chosen to have no reconstruction just because it's not something I'm interested in and I'm lucky to feel comfortable with my body. I have prosthesis which I have only worn about 4 times in the two years. I'm a preschool teacher and the children I work with are sometimes curious and look down my top and say "boobies" and I say "boobies gone." The younger children repeat "boobies gone" and the older children say " your boobies got sick didn't they Melinda" and I just say "yes they did" and the kids run off and play. Karens post was so true... Make your decisions based on what's right for you. I find most people don't even notice I'm boobless. I had a session with a stylist at my local Westfield who showed me what clothes to wear to be more flattering and hide that I'm boobless. I feel very confident when I'm out of my work uniform. Look after yourself and rest and celebrate when those drains come out :) Mel xxx
