The Burqini!

Hello ladies,

I am currently undertaking chemotherapy (and according to my Oncologist, will be having it now FOREVER (but what does he know) .....  and I was thinking about what I was going to do this summer with my bald head when I really like swimming and going to the beach and in fact have a family holiday to Cairns booked for October. Enter.....the Burqini!

I remembered some years ago hearing about some Aussie Muslim women who had designed a swimsuit which included a hood.  I checked out their website and ordered one of the suits that looked pretty funky.  The suits are in two pieces - a top (just like a sunprotection top) with a build in hood and long pants.  I sent the company an email saying why I was purchasing the Burqini and that I didn't really need the pants and would they ever consider selling just the top with hood separately.

Anyway, I received a call the very next day from a lovely woman who said she would send me two tops with hoods instead of the one set that I had ordered - they arrived today and in fact she had sent me three!!!  She said they had provided suits for people other than Muslim women in the past, such as burns victims and people with melanoma.

I tried them on and they look quite awesome.  I got size medium which was right for me as a size 10-12.  Just wanted to let you guys know about this great product which will keep me swimming and happy this summer!!!

To find them just Google 'burqini' or see website www.ahiida.com.

All the best,

Cathy XX

  • I just had a look at that website- what a great idea. It's especially good cos covers alot and I don't think you can get much sun on you when having chemo. Another good site is www.headcovers.org - they have lots of different swimming caps.I hope you have a lovely holiday to Cairns in October.
