The beginning

Hi Mj, I also had an MRI done last December when I was trying to decide what extra surgery to have. I would have had a double mastectomy if anything suspicious had showed up. It didn't so I opted only to go back to theatre and have a single mastectomy, following the lumpectomy that I had had only 3 weeks before, and then to give myself time to think about whether or not I would have the other one off later. Everything happens so quickly, as I'm sure you are finding. My small lump was much bigger than they thought, hence the reason why my lumpectomy became a mastectomy. I also had more nodes removed, but it was a relief to know that they were all clear. I have never regretted having the mastectomy, as it gave me peace of mind. I had 4 rounds of chemo, and was very lucky as I didn't have a rough time with it, though, I'm really glad that it is over now and my hair is growing back. ( very curly ). love Chris xx

Hi Chris Nice to hear from you it's all a bit of a whirl at the moment all I know so far is that the left one come over in a couple of weeks and they r taking some nodes to check I have an MRI on Thursday to check the other breast So many of the mums at school have had breast cancer it's unbelievable but I haven't been told what I'm getting done next Has everything gone well for you ? Hi Mj, Very sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer. I'm glad you have found this site, as you will get lots of support and help here. Have you received the books on Early Breast Cancer from the BCNA? I received mine from my surgeon, but you can access them form the BCNA, and will find them very useful. Another very helpful book is written by Professor John Boyages, and is called Breast Cancer. Taking Control. I found it at Dymocks and it was about $40. This book is well written and so easy to understand and a mine of information. What treatment are you having for your breast cancer? I had a mastectomy Laxt December and level 1 axillary clearance ( 10 nodes), all clear. I've had chemo as cancer was 21mm and grade 3, and last week I had the other breast off as a precaution, and insertion of tissue expanders. In a few months I will get silicon implants.
