TC chemo rash - Help please!

I'm 8 days after my first chemo and the one thing I wasn't expecting was this awful rash! It's on my face my chest my back and my neck. It's so awful - I don't want to go outside and i am seriously considering quitting chemo because of it. Everything else is shitty, but this seems to be like rubbing salt in the wound so to speak. I have started taking antihistamines and have antibiotics from my GP. Has anyone else had this? Does it go away? Can you get different drugs? I don't want to give up but I don't think I'm strong enough to have this along with everything else. :(

  • The zyrtec worked for me! It stopped it very quickly and now my skin in almost back to normal. I've been in hospital this weekend because I became neutropenic and had a wisdom tooth growth spurt, my face swelled and I got a fever. But thankfully it's all under control now. Phew! The things we endure through chemo. At least I am now feeling brave enough to go on to my next chemo treatment next week :) thanks for the support ladies xxxxx big hugs
  • same here, I had the rash too, I also had it in my head not a good look at all, my hair was falling out and I had a disgusting rash too. My doctor gave me cream of some sort and I took Claratyne.

You may find that you have other side effects yet to emerge but as Robyn said its doable. We do know that at the time its horrendous but hang in there the end result is worth it.

    Sending you cyber hugs

  • Thanks for the lovely message of support. Really appreciate the encouragement as I've been so low the past few days. Thanks :)
  • Thank you so much!! felt really alone there for a bit. I'll get some Zyrtec and fingers crossed. So good to hear from someone else who experienced this. And have a heads up on the next few weeks too. Really can't thank you enough for your lovely reply. Was feeling so low today and you've perked me up :) thanks. Big hugs to you too xxxxxx Hannah
  • I had TC chemo a couple of years ago and yes I do remember getting a rash on my back and chest mainly in those awful few days just after each treatment. I don't remember having it on my face though and it did subside again a week or so later when I started to feel a bit better. Sound like you've got it a bit worse than me, you poor thing.

All the different side effects do mount up, don't they. It is really tough to get through. Hang in there Florist82. Just remember that those horrible chemicals are killing any stray cancer cells even though they make you feel so awful.

And it's not forever. I know it seems to go on and on but you do come out the other side and gradually things get back to normal. Hopefully those antihistimines will kick in and the rash will ease up. Fingers crossed for you. Take it easy. Janet.

  • I had the same chemo as you.I also had that terrible rash. The only thing that took it away for me,was Zyrtec .It worked quickly too.I tried other things that the doctor gave me,and nothing else helped. The first round of chemo is the worst.Hang in there, because YOU CAN do it.You are nearly over the worst of it.By day 10, I was starting to feel a bit better. Then you just have to be careful to stay away from crowds for the 2nd.week.Week 3 you will find yourself thinking' oh this is not too bad,I can do it!!!' Then it all starts again.Stay on here if you need support, because we have all done it,and you will too.Big hugs to youxoxoxoRobyn
