Taxol

Hi All, I've started the first of 12 rounds of Taxol this week after completing 4 rounds of AC. So far I have experienced no nausea unlike with AC which is a welcome relief however I seem to be experiencing lots of aches and pains all over my body particularly in my legs and ribs. Could any of you lovely ladies let me know if this is normal and what else to expect from the Taxol. Thanks, Sophie

    I was treated with taxotare which is similar and yep around day 4 the bone pain kicked in. I felt like an old lady and very flu like. It only lasted a few days, and took that time off work and was kind to myself... Good excuse to hit the couch. One day at a time Sophie. You can do it. We all did so try and not get too far ahead of yourself. Easy to say I know. Radiation is a walk in the park after chemo. My radiation oncologist told me most people who do chemo find it easier. As for the reconstruction it has taken me two years to get to the point where I am about to have it. Maybe have a little break after treatment. However each of us are individual and I know lots of ladies just want it all done and dusted. Hugs to you and your achey bones. Paula :)

    Thanks Janey , That was really helpful. I've read your posts and can see there is light at the end of the tunnel . Still seems like I have such a long way to go with radiotherapy and eventually reconstruction to follow . Take care , Sophie xxx

    I was on Docetaxol which is similar to Taxol after finishing AC. I found the AC was a walk in the park compared to Docetaxel. The bone pain was terrible. My oncologist told me to take one extra Dexamethasone tablet on day three or four when the pain set in. This together with paracetamol keep the pain under control. Yes three of my toenails began to fall off too and after finishing chemo end of June, I've had two more go. I also developed neuropathy in my hands and feet with numbness and tingling which is only now beginning to disappear. I think I may have had a higher dose with a treatment every three weeks and not twelve weekly doses like you and this may have caused more severe symptoms. But your oncologist can adjust the dosage if need be. I wrote down everything I was experiencing with Docetaxol and my oncologist had a good picture of what was happening. Sophie I hope this doesn't worry you too much. You may not get any other side effects apart from the bone aches and pains. Fingers crossed you won't.     Thanks ladies, It's only early days for me on the Taxol but already I'm worrying it will be worse than AC if these pains don't stop. I've taken nurofen and panadol but at this stage it's not really helping. I'm a worrier as well so every pain I feel I think it's the cancer spreading - something I know many can relate to.     Hi Sophie,

    I have just had my 3rd dose of Taxol today after finishing my AC.  My nausea is very mild but the aches and pains kick in on day 4, the steriod they give me with chemo seems to stop the aches for a few days.  I have been taking Panadol Osteo (advice from breast care nurse) and Nurofen (my Oncologist prescribed the nurofen and nexium as you are not supposed to take Nurofen).  This has helped a little bit.  He also prescirbed Panadeine Forte which I haven't taken as yet because I am getting really constipated and that will just make it worse.  It is horrible, you feel like you have the flu.  My toe nails are also starting to look funny.  They may even break or drop off.  I am finding this almost worse than the AC.  At least take some panadol regularly to get the pain a little under control and ask your Oncologist for something stronger to take.

    I did have bone pain while on taxol but I needed neulasta and neupogen as well which is known to give bone pain.  I have read that other folks have had some bone pain with Taxol though.  Does taking panadol or another anti inflammatory help at all?
