Thanks ladies! My Oncologist doesn't seem concerned by the pain and discomfort they are giving me. Ive just been told to keep them short and I take endone for the pain
Ouch! Those look very sore. No I really didn't have any pain, my fingernails were fine - a very light brown staining, nicotine like (and no I don't smoke!) but you would have had to look close to notice it. My toenails were something else! Two remained untouched. The rest went chalk white, grey, brown and black, several thickened and one split width-wise (like veneered wood left out in the rain). Two lifted a bit but nothing came off and remarkably, no pain. It took a long time for some of them to recover, but they have. I know some people do lose their nails - ice water is sometimes suggested but I would get some advice. I found oncology nurses very useful about these sorts of side effects. Good luck!
This is my nails today, it's not really discoloration that's the problem, they are thickening from underneath and lifting, very painful, I think I'm going to lose them unfortunately :(
@Afraser AC for me was just as much a nightmare sadly! So you found most side effects lifted pretty quickly after you finished taxol?? Did you get any pain from the nail issues?? My hands are sooo sore! I'm struggling to use them as the nails are so tender!
No you are not alone, I loathed Taxol! Apart from the peripheral neuropathy (still have funny feet after 5 years) I had a bloody nose, lost my tastebuds, and sported multicoloured nails. No pain apart from my neuropathied feet which were very painful at one point. Most everything else cleared up when I stopped, but A/C was much easier. Most people do find it the other way round. Happily I had no fatigue or nausea with either.
Wow I must be the exception to the rule, I'm 34 and have had as many side effects on taxol as I did AC just different ones. I'm 9 rounds of 12 in. From the get go it was evident I was allergic to it, so each week I now have 7 pre-meds before they run it over 4hrs instead of the usual 1HR . I have all over skin rashes, itching, flushing, blackened nails, nausea, diarrhoea, taste changes, fatigue, blood noses, swelling in hands and feet, body aches and pains :( I envy those who say it's a walk in the park! Everyone is so different I guess.
Yes, it gives you pain everywhere!! Even my tiny little ear bone was aching at one point. I'm 3 weeks past taxol now and I don't have any pain anymore. Feet and hands are swollen from the heat though so that's unusual. And annoying!!
Dear All, I had my 11th Weekly Taxol Infusion last Thursday and I am struggling with Pain in my neck, shoulder and upper back. I thought the Pain will go away after few days however I am still experiencing the pain. So far I have taken only Panadol and applied Volitra Gel (external) to get some relief from the Pain but it returns back after few hours.
Did anyone else experience the same during Taxol treatment?
