Taxol no.10 with 38.1 temp
Hi lovely ladies,
so I woke up this morning after having no sleep due to runny nose, headaches etc. to a temp of 37.8. I was due to have taxol no.10 (plus Herceptin and perjeta) so figured I’d get there and tell them everything.
got there told them everything and by now was also cold and shivery. They took obs temp was 38.0, heart rate 105 and blood pressure 144/93 so technically febrile, tachycardia and high bp. Registrar listened to my chest and went to speak to my Med Onc. Came back and said Dr wants to continue but will do extra bloods, urine, viral swab and chest X-ray.
so it was all administered with me freezing cold and shaking under 3 warm blankets then I was sent on my way without another ob check or instructions as to what to do if temp continued. I later find out that registrar didn’t talk to my Med Onc but to the resident (who I do not like and my Med Onc has overruled her decisions in the past).
i am now Home and still have a temp of 38.1 and feel like crap, should I trust that they will call me if the tests showed anything or Call the after hours on Call Med Onc?

- I finally got up to the ward at 3pm!
my blood work and swabs all came back good (but yes I was in isolation in ED)
feeling much better now although sore throat and cough worse.
still doing round the clock antibiotics and panadol to keep things at bay. - Good news but you'lll be glad when you go home and can get some sleep!
- Hi again, @JoeyLiz. Hope you have a ward bed by now. Did you ever find out your neutraphil count? And did ypu have an isolation area in ED until you you knew? When I ended up in ED during chemo, the isolation rooms were occupied, so I sat in emergency for nearly 24 hourz waiting for a bed, with neutraphils of 0.02, then 0.01. Feeling rotten, but not really thinking about just how dangerous it was for me.
As for that Registrar, he/she is senior to a Resident, so why ask them for advice? I'd certainly have little faith in that part of the team now.
A d the nurses who let you go home without pushing harder..... lost for words. I know it can be busy, but you came i with a very high temp, at the very least you should have been kept until blood results available.
As someone else maybe @Zoffiel, said, a letter to consumer feedback about the whole debacle, when you feel up to it, may well be in order. Just make sure you jot down some notes about it now, because it's amazing what we forget when we're at our best, let alone now, when you feel like crap.

Stuff her. It's not about her (which may come as a rude shock) If your butcher, baker or candlestick maker proved so deficient you wouldn't go back--you have no obligation to her at all.
What's more ***climbs onto high horse*** if she gives you any grief in the future she will be demonstrating a lack of professional judgment that you can make her regret. That, of course, is a two way street. The up side is she won't be there for long, and you will be :)
- Thanks ladies. I’m still in ED as no beds on ward so got next to no sleep. Waiting for review but Hoping to go home but will see. Have had antibiotics and tamiflu and fluids. Panadol is controlling temp and heart rate has now settled. A virus upper respiratory tract infection they reckon.
i now refuse reviews with that resident as I do not like what she says. It does make it hard as I work here so have to deal with her with my other patients! - I hope it's a better morning today @JoeyLiz. Thinking of you. K xox
- @joeyliz What @zoffiel says! I came close to have doxyrubicin pumped directly into my breast tissue even though I had been complaining of severe pain from the saline and steroids. I, with my husband's help, composed a letter to my medical team, outlining the events as they happened. My purpose was to bring it to the attention of the medical staff that they needed to consider the patient's experience and review their procedures to include the unusual and unexpected. I put it as a "no blame" but "please learn" type of feedback.

Bloody registrar's! Seriously, someone needs a smack. I know it can come across as rude, but I'm at the stage now where I insist on thanking to a grown up if I think anything is wrong. This bullshit can kill people. As for being sent home without another set of obs or any follow up, WTF were the nursing staff thinking? Put in a patient feed back form about this, you are high risk and obviously haven't recieved appropriate care, rattle their cages a little. Marg xxx
