taxol & work

Hi I'm currently having AC every 21 days and have a week off for treatment then work for two weeks. This has been quite manageable. Next, I will be starting on a weekly taxol combined with herceptin every 21 days. Can anyone give me some feedback on working whilst having a weekly treatment. Thanks CB

  • I've only had two AC treatments so far, next one is on Tuedsay. In the last three weeks i've put on 3.3kgs! I haven't changed my diet & even joined a gym. Is it the steroids in the chemo & dexmethsone I take for anti nausea? At this rate I'll be the size of a house in 12 mths. Presuming the Hercepton & tamoxifen will also have some affect on weight. Any advice welcome. :) Cassie
  • Thanks Viv that's really helpful feedback. I guess I'll just have to wait & see how I go. Cassie
  • I had FEC x3 every 3 weeks and worked full time through the second 2 cycles just taking treatment days off. Now I am on weekly taxol, just had the fourth one, and am finding I can only work 3 days a week. I am very tired with muscle aches on day 3 and 4 of each cycle so I have treatment on Thursdays and take that off, work on Fridays, take the weekend and Monday off, work Tuesday and Wednesday then off again for chemo on Thursday. I was told weekly taxol would be easier to tolerate than FEC and instead I am finding it harder, but now I have found a routine that works for me it is OK. Good luck with your treatment. Viv
  • Hi Cassie Glad to hear you are coping with treatment so well. I had the same chemo as you but not the herceptin - 4 x AC and 12 weekly taxol. I would have AC on a Monday and be back at work on the Wednesday of that week and the next 2 weeks and so on. As for the weekly taxol I managed to have it on each Monday and back to work on the Wednesday of that week. It turns out I am quite resilient and my surgeon and oncologist were quite amazed that I managed to carry on pretty much as normal (just with no hair and eyebrows). It sounds very much like your body is pretty strong as well. All the best with the rest of your treatment. Fiona :)
