Tamoxofin

Hi everyone

I have been on Tamoxofin since beginning of July and find that I get really tired by 7.30.  If I am still awake by 9.00 I am very surprised.  Is this one of the known side affects and does it get better after being on it for a while.

  • Hi Jenn

When I said two years, I meant for things to feel like they did before cancer.  Like you I go flat out still, running a business and also have two children to run around with all their extra curricular stuff and also the volunteer work I do in my community.  So in time you will feel normal again and for me the hot flushes did settle down and they are rare now.  I have been menopausal since chemo at the ripe old age of 36 lol.

Give your body time to adjust and it will serve you well.  Good luck and love.

  • Loving my time off.We have alot to do around this new house, getting quotes, fences, landscape etc.Not sure if I have retired but will think about that next year.I take a very low dose antidepressant called Endep(10mg)for the hot flushes and it helps(also helps with sleep).Doesn't seem to have any side effects either.I wish I could tell you that the hot flushes improve- not!!!

  • Yes the hot flushes are amazing.  One minute I am freezing and snuggled up in my flannelettes and blankets and the next I am stripped naked.  I hope this goes away!!  I noticed you said you stopped working.  I dropped my hours to 15 per week over 3 days and absolutely love it.  Are you still enjoying your time off.

  • Hi Tanya

thanks for your reply.  Yes found cancer in Feb then had 4 doses of chemo finishing early June.  I am not someone that likes sitting still so finding it hard being tired so early.  If it has taken you atleast 2 years I had just better get used to the idea.  I tend to go flat out throughout the day anyway.  I love cycling and even during chemo I could manage 40km's some days.  Other days I couldn't even get on the bike.  Anyway, thank you for your message.  Hope that you are now doing really well.

  • Hi Jennifer

did you have chemo?  I only ask cause it takes a while after chemo for your body to recover rather than a side effect of tamoxifen.  I think it took me about 2 years after I finished chemo before I lost that tired feeling.  Even now 4 years later I still need my afternoon nap on the weekend just to catch up.  Your hormones are still settling too, so give it a little more time and I think things will will settle for you.

    Good luck.
