Tamoxifen

Hi all - this is my first attempt at a blog!

I am a 41year old woman diagnosed with early breast cancer in November 2011. There is no history of breast cancer in my family.

I had a lumpectomy late November, was tatooed yesterday and will start Radiotherapy early February. After this I have been advised to try tamoxifen. I am a little hesitant about this due to the possible side effects.

Any advice or comments would be appreciated.

  • Hi Jemamine, I'm interested to hear how you have been going on Tamoxifen. I finish Radiotherapy this week and will start Tamoxifen the following week. From what I have read everyone's experience is quite different, but I would love to hear your evaluation. There are so many unknowns on this journey, I am thankful for this network which brings women of similar experience together. Thanks, Judy

Hi Jemamine and welcome to the Network! :)  Good on you for having a go at blogging -- there's not really any right or wrong way to go about it, but if you need a hand finding your way around, just shout.

  • Hi Jemamine

I'm coming up to one year of being on Tamoxifen and handling it okay. I was 45 when diagnosed with BC in July 2010. Had chemo which finished Jan. 7 2011 and then started Tamoxifen in Feb 2011. I was pre-menopausal at the time of diagnosis. I do get some hot flushes, stiff joints, but I'm not sure if the chemo has caused this or tamoxifen but whatever has caused it, the side effects have not been as bad as I had expected and reasonably manageable. I hope you are in this category too. I remember my doctor telling me that your body gets used to it and symptoms usually settle somewhat. Not sure that I agree, I seem to have the same symptoms as when I started. I have also taken some tablets via my naturopath when may been helping. All the best to you.
