Tamoxifen

I have been taking tamoxifen for just over 6 months and i am so happy that finally i have been able to increase my dose to half a tablet (10mg) daily.

It has been a long tough road with this nasty little pill. I have had to increase my dosage very slowly and gradually as it affected me badly.

If i take too much suddenly i get so angry with the world. ( i was going to divorce my husband over a lost hose connection at one stage lol). Or if i forget to take it for a day or 2 or had to go off it for an opperation i would get so teary and emotional.

So i have learnt that if i take it everyday and don't forget my body has become used to it and it doesnot affect me to bad any more.

Hopefully by christmas i will be able to increase to the full 20mg tablet daily. xx

  • I have terrible trouble remembering to take my tablet so I have set an alarm on my phone.  At 7.00pm every night it starts ringing and I often say to myself or my fiance that without the ringing I would have forgotten.  Hope this helps.

  • Hi Leonie,

Sorry that your oncologist is a dick, i have heard alot of women say they are not happy with their treatment its sad.

It definately sounds the same as my reactions so it would be worth discussing it.

My oncologist wanted me to take tamoxifen he did not care how much i took each day as long as a tiny bit entered my system and gradually let me build up as i felt ready.

Sometimes i wonder why these doctors spent so much time at university to help people when they so obviously don't give a hoot.

  • Hi Danielle,  I was the same - couldn't take the contraceptive pill.  It made me really ill - lucky I only have 2 children (that's another story which is a mystery).  I will definately be TELLING the MO to consider this or otherwise I will just try it myself.  The MO is such a Dickhead. • Hi Leonie,

Check with your oncologist and mention it see what he says. I donot know anything about Arimidex but it definately worked with the tamoxifen.

I am very small i weigh about 49 KGs (not by choice) and i have never been able to take the fertility pill as it messes around with me so my oncologist knew we were going to have troubles from the start.

I got terrible headaches from the tamoxifen and was strongly considering stopping taking it and then i minimised the dose for a while and built back up and i feel kind of 'normal' now.

Chat with your oncologist its definately worth finding out about.

  • Is the dosage due to your age or stature?  Or does your body just not like it?  It is very interesting and I wonder if I could do the same with Arimidex when I restart it (such terrible aches and pains with it)  I am finally starting to see some slight improvement - it is now 3 weeks off the Arimidex and I will stay off it for another 2 weeks.  It might be worth a try - doing half a pill at a time.  XLeonie
