Hi Nasussylvia
This is Kathy from BCNA's Policy Team. I saw your post and thought I would clear this up for you.
Tamoxifen is not a chemotherapy. It is a type of drug called hormone therapy, or endocrine therapy. You have been prescribed it because you must have hormone receptor positive breast cancer. This is sometimes also called oestrogen-positive, or ER+, breast cancer. It means that the hormone oestrogen helps to make the cancer grow. Tamoxifen works be stopping oestrogen from getting into the cancer cells.
There is more information on the hormone therapy page of our website. You can also download or order our hormone therapy booklet if you think that might be useful for you.
Hope this helps.
Kathy
