tamoxifen and bleeding

Hi all, am looking for some advice/ reassurance. I am 33 and have been taking Tamoxifen for about 2 and 1/2 months. I know bleeding is a concern for post-menopausal women, but was wondering how common it is for women my age. Any advice?

  • many thanks for the advice. I have an appointment with my oncologist soon, so I will double check with him, but it's always good to hear from someone who has been through it.

  • Hi, I started on Tamoxifen 3 months after my first diagnosis in 2006 (had surgery and radiation first)  I was 50.5 and had not gone through menopause.  I have a great gynecologist who advised me that with any bleeding I was to contact him and I did.  Each time he would do an internal or a D&C just to be sure.  (I had numerous D&C's but now after a new diagnosis in December 2011 I was changed over to Arimidex.  I hate it.  I have just started it again after my chemo has finished.)  Each time everything was good but I am glad that I had it checked out for peace of mind.  Please have it checked out - best to be sure. • Hi

I am taking tamoxifen and I believe that one of the very rare side effects is uterine cancer and so have been told that if I have any vaginal bleeding(I'm 52 and my periods stopped with chemo) to let the doctors know. So if it's not your normal period I would just have it checked out for peace of mind. Tamoxifen is not given to postmenopausal ladies unless they cannot tolerate Arimidex.
