Tamoxifen 1 month on
Have been on this drug I had been fearing so much for about a month now and not doing too bad. The sleep disturbance is definitely the worst thing for me - so much so that “sleeping tablet” Thursday is one of the highlights of my week. On the upside I get much more done since I’m not wasting it on pesky sleep ;). I have just noticed in the last 3 days that I might be getting a small amount of joint pain. I have noticed it most in the morning in my hands that they need a good stretch out. I have noticed a little brain fog but I still don’t know if this is the tablet or the lack of sleep from the tablet (I know what u think @kezmusc :D). It’s not too bad but I did call a new work colleague by the wrong name last week :o. I have noticed at night too when I’m trying to read that things seem slightly more blurry with or without my glasses - again, not sure if it’s the tablets or the tiredness. I’m also a little crankier and even more impatient and intolerant of idiots that I used to be but I think that could be more a side effect of what I have been through this year - life’s too short to deal with idiots.
All in all im actually doing pretty well and consider myself to be lucky so far. Only time will tell if the sleeping improves as my body gets used to it. Will have to wait another 2 months to see what happens.
Really long for the days of a decent sleep when I didn’t wake up with hot flushes though!!

- kezmuscMemberAww what a shame you got sick @Sanra . I feel so good after a week off it. Almost like a big high. Hard to go back on it after feeling that good for a couple of weeks. Hope it gets better for you.
xoxoxo - SanraMember@kezmusc.... i got a bit of feeling back to hands and feet and slightly better dizzy head lol. But i was then lucky enough to get an infection close to my port, so 2 weeks in hospital kinda stopped the feeling better feeling. Still got pico on trying to clear that infection!
im back on it again now, side effects arent pleasant, my professor says to let my body get used to it for a little while before we decide anything.
i did discover the melatonin helps a bit with sleep. But am still so very tired. - Kiwi_AngelMember@Sister might be worth getting my eyes checked again soon. Hardly every wear them anyway but worth checking out.
- SisterMember@"Kiwi Angel" My onc advised me to avoid getting new glasses during chemo if I could and wait for things to settle down.
- Kiwi_AngelMemberI used to be a good 8 or 9 hours girl @kezmusc. Now 5 or 6 I can function on but 4 is just ridiculous. Can’t do it. Boss just bought me a coffee. :D
- kezmuscMemberYeah, I used to sleep like the dead once upon a time. My body has somewhat got used to functioning on 5-6 hours of interrupted sleep so no longer tired.
- Kiwi_AngelMember@kezmusc was thinking about getting my eyes tested again - only just got glasses when I was going through chemo. Glad to hear so far u are doing ok and the fog is better. Hopefully your tablets are working. I’m hoping the sleep thing sorts itself out - I have always been such a good sleeper too. Will look at the melatonin thing though in the interim. Refuse to take more than one sleeping tablet a week.
- kezmuscMemberHe he @"Kiwi Angel",
Thanks for the mention. At least it was a work colleague you called by the wrong name and not your husband!
Glad to hear you're doing ok. I shall keep my whinging to a minimum. LOL
Probs go to your optometrist and get your eyes checked just to make sure. 6 weeks after starting Tamox version 1 I needed reading glasses. Never had any problems up until then. Couldn't read anything at night or dull light. Still can't. Even the optometrist rolled her eyes when I told her what drug I was taking. Recommended 12 monthly check ups on corneas. Common problem according to her.
The fog.
As you will know I ditched all my supplements last time. I have added the Ginko, brahmi back in without anything else. It was making me nauseous at the start, but hey, we've all done nausea before so I persevered.
If I could have found my glasses (unsurprisingly I had forgotten where I had left them) and been able to read the label it wouldn't have been an issue. You are supposed to take them with food. Ooops.
So this week I have noticed an improvement with the fog and memory. Maybe they are working?????. No improvement with my penchant for getting sentences and words out backwards though. Just an overall feeling of more clarity I guess. This will be week 6 back on and when it normally starts going to absolute shit for me. We'll see if they work through the next few weeks. Fingers crossed.
@Sanra. How did you go on your break off it??
xoxoxo - Kiwi_AngelMember@kmakm already taking them at night. Blood pressure med, tamoxifen and vitamin D in the morning, panadol osteo, curcumin, aged garlic and magnesium spray at night.
@iserbrown just reading up on the melatonin and gonna go see the doctor tomorrow morning if I can or on Friday. - iserbrownMember
You can't function without sleep - if it is persisting go and see about what you can do about it!!
