Tamoxifen - sore feet!

Why does Tamoxifen give me such sore feet?

Hobble out of bed each morning like an old lady!

  • Hello Kay & Girls,,,

I was on Arimidex for 5 months but due to horrendous pains in feet and ankles to the point that walking  was difficult. In May I switched to Aromasin and still experience pain in feet and ankles but to a much lesser degree. A few months back I came upon an American Cancer Site where a woman was having the same issue. Her suggestion was putting on Croc's when getting out of bed. I quickly purchased some and they make a huge difference. I no longer feel as if I am walking on the bones of my feet.

Sadly, however I now tend to wear them most of the time. No longer a Fashionista as less pain is always the winner. Arimidex was great for weight loss though but Aromasin does the opposite. Very difficult to move the weight. Terrible to think that there are thousands of us all suffering, as if the Cancer, Surgery and Chemo wasn't enough!

Nearly completed my first year and four more to go. Now I can understand why 30% of women cease taking them. I won't be one of them though as I/ family could not go through it all again. So me and my Crocs will continue together.

  • Hi Annie.

I hobble out of bed, put on my flat sensible shoes and then feel like the office Nana when I hobble up from my desk at work... I have just turned 49, having been diagnosed with BC on my 47th birthday.  I do worry about what long term effects this treatment is having on our bodies.  Really happy to share any tips and advise on staying on Tamoxifen and actually feeling good - I have progressively started taked caltrate, fish oil, glucosomine, evening primrose oil and have just added magnesium ...derrrr still feel fat old and tired!

  • H,

There seems to be so many questions I should have asked 18mths ago when I started taking Tamoxifen and just did'nt seem to be able to process! I am booked to go back and see my doctor, this time with a need for more confirmation to what the upside is... and WHY do my feet hurt all the time and WHY am I depressed and fatigued and is stopping breast cancer coming back to my one remaining breast worth feeling like I'm 60 when I've just turned 49?

Very happy to share your experiences...

  • Hi Kay im on Aromasin and suffer aching feet.i hobble around until i get used to it.im ok until i stop. I had Taxol chemo not sure if you did? But im starting to think its a permanent side effect from the Taxol. My research and talking to others is leading me to believe this. I cant imagine being like this for the rest of my life.im only 42. Anyway let me know if you ever find something that relieves it. Cheers Annie

  • HI Kay

I'm on Tamoxifin too but I haven't had sore feet.  However I did look it up on the net and I've copied and pasted the link for you to read.

As with most of these types of links (Pharmaceutical) they give you every single possible side effect - some of which would be extremely rare so don't be alarmed when you read it.

I have worked in the Health Industry for many years so I'm used to this type of post/jargon.

Anyway it does mention bone pain and swelling in the legs/feet so have a read and see what you think.

However it is very important you discuss this with your doctor as it may be something completely unrelated to Tamoxifin....so do make an appointment and discuss with him/her.  I know I would - as a matter of fact I'm going next week about Tamoxifin as I am suffering horrendous hot flushes and lack of sleep, so much so I'm exhausted all the time, and frankly I'm sick of it!  (Only been on it since June...!)

    Here is the link :

Do let me know how you go.

    cheers for now
