TAMOXIFEN - side effect

True even though I well prepared with the side effect, but still come towards me.

Tamoxifen casued me low mood that I feel mostly affected on me.  I visited 2 times psychologist, she recommended me to take EFEXOR that I dont think I will (I hate medication from now on..........)

I keep myself walking in the morning and sweat a lot, my hot flush is in from time to time but not much really annoying me......well, only in the night time.  Sleep no quality, not simply hot flush, but just not good.  Pelvis started to pain lately, hard to walk, have to stand for a while and then walk.  I did the bone scanning and all went well.  What else I could do with the Pelvis pain.  I saw potentially I might have Pelvis cancer from tamoxifen.

ps : anything relation to the brand ?  I am with GenRx that the chemist randomly given me.  I had a friend in HKG suffering from BC as well, gave me another 2 brand, whic hs Nolvadex-D andEbewe.  make any difference from the side effect?

Cheers

  • I have been on Tamoxifin for about 11 months now and things have settled. At the beginning I had terrible nausea but that was just a couple of weeks, the cramping was horrific but that is easily managed with magnisium. I still get some hot flushes at night but i have bought a cooling pad and that is just awesome. I do get random bone pain but nothing like I got on Arimidex. I find that I do suffer with sleeplessness and that is an issue as I work full time, I have been prescribed a very mild sleeping pill and take them occassionally.

I am on Genox brand and have asked my pharmisist to just stock that brand for me as I read that side effects may be different with the different brands. Why look for trouble if you can help it i say.

On the moods, hmm I am not sure, my husband may have another opionion though. I think I get a little anxious these days but thats about it.

In the long run this path is a lot easier than the surgeries and treaments we have all been through and for that I am externally grateful.

  • I have now been on Tamoxifen (Genox) for about 5 weeks. No nausea or headaches but  I have also found that I am alot more impatient but whether too blame the medication or just the whole diagnosis and treatment, unsure.  I have had various bone pains that tend to resolve themselves, it appears that each day I wake and find a different region painful sometimes its my back other times one or both legs.  My new trick is to on waking turn on electric blanket to 3 warm up my bones (gosh sounding like my mother haha!) and then i tend to experience less stiffness and pain when starting my day.

Thanks for info on Magnesium i may give it a try as I still experience hot flushes, they have settled alot though but still need to sleep with a fan on me overnight.

  • I also find that my mood is very up and down. Some days worse than others, but I do know that I am a lot more impatient than I used to be.I walk every day,and my hot flushes are much better than they were on the beginning.Since I have been taking magnesium,my hot flushes at night have pretty much stopped.I take Blackmores MagMin,and I take 2 tablets in the morning and 2 late in the afternoon.I started taking them for my leg cramps, and the change in my hot flushes was instant!!!!!I had pelvic pain, and also some bleeding in the first 3 or 4 months on Tamoxifen, and my doctor sent me for day surgery, just to check on everything. All was fine, and the pain and the bleeding just went away.I actually have an ultrasound tomorrow, just to check on things.I have been on Tamoxifen for 11 months now,and I feel that it is just lately that things have really settled down.Nice to hear from you Rosanna.Take care.Cheers xoxRobyn
  • I started tamoxifen (my chemist dispenses Genox) and was anticipating side effects but have not had any of the headaches or nausea that were potential side effects. No hot flushes yet either. My oncologist was talking about sending me to a study (if I wanted to go) that sees if the tamoxifen is active in my body (she says it may well be but this would confirm it) as some people don't metabolise the drug. I certainly would participate in this study IF it is still going as I am not keen to take this stuff for 5 - 10 years if its not doing anything.

I do have joint pain in the knees and fluid retention still but I think it might be left over from chemo, and for the knee pain may well be the weight I gained during chemo putting pressure on. I have been back to the gym but been on a cruise so no weight loss yet! it will come.

good luck - hope the side effects lessen soon for you
