TAC Chemo 2

It's Sunday night and have appointment for chemo 2 at 10.30 Tuesday, so have to take pills tomorrow and get blood test. Feeling a bit apprehensive knowing I'll have bad days after it, but also keen to get on with killing any cancer cells left in me.

  • And I was worried about chemo side effects... Got flu, so neutropenic sepsis, type 1 respiratory failure and double pneumonia. Critically I'll; 17 days in hospital. Out 3 days now, still very short of breath but great to be out. Appreciating the small things.
  • Hey there

I had TAC also last year...as my oncoloist said we will give you the big guns. Well Im happy to say I got through and the big guns worked. He suggested I give up work during this time to rest and prevent infections and as my GP said just for a few months I have to put myself 1st and everything else can wait.

For the 1st few days I was pretty much flat on my back..which was very hard considering I used to work 2 jobs and exercise daily. My kids and partner nurtured me and thats what my GP said I needed. Its only a short time in your life and you need that....let people fuss over you, its what gets you through. My beautiful partner would give me the injection on day 4 and never thought when we met 6 years ago he would be doing this. He is an RN and very patient. The Emend was a godsend...my magic nausea drug I called it.

On the 2nd week when I felt a little stronger I would go for coffee with girlfriends or lunch and would really cheer me up and boost me. Try to stay away from crowded places though..especially if your white blood cells are low as you are at much higher risk of infection.

Overall it was doable Sue, I would do it again but it definitely wasnt easy. Doing the whole mouth wash thing is the most important to prevent mouth ulcers...and my biggest tip is to drink lots of water...especially in the 1st few days to flush the chemo out of your system.

I feeling fatastic now, the TAC really did its job.Take care...you will get through this...the last weeks are exhausting but you will nearly be there.

  • So far, so good. Distracted by my partner who appears to have the flu - has pretty much slept the past day and a half, and has stirred up his bad back from coughing. I have been doing little jobs around the place that he wouldn't let me do if he was well. Just hope he gets better before I get worse!

  • I would dread going to chemo I knew that after I would have some very ordinary days. But I got through it. I found there was a cumulative effect too more tired and fatigued. Now have you ever heard of Super Chemo Man, he's very good at zapping the cancer but unfortunately he's a bit daft and zaps the good cells too!! My son came up with Super Chemo Man and he got me through with zaps, lasers ands tasers. I wish you all the best today. Fiona

  • There definitely was a cumulative effect, but for me it was more that side effects lasted longer. For instance I felt fatigued for an extra couple of days, but nothing too different.I had a skin rash the second time, that I didn't have the first round, but not much else. However I definitely felt more confident the second round, and I remember that when a lady in the chair next to me told me that it was her first chemo,I found myself giving advice like Id been doing it all my life!!,Haha.Take care,it will all be over soon.:) Robynxox
  • My biggest problem is I overthink things and worry. Like, it should be better this time as I know better what to expect, and shouldn't make myself feel sick worrying that I'm going to get sick! But...sure I was told that SE's can be worse - cumulative effect - so that's a worry!
