Sweating or headaches any advice?

Hi

It's been a while since I blogged as have been merrily getting on with life. However when I saw my onco a few weeks ago I asked him if there was anything  I could have to stop the terrible sweating from tamoxifen . I already take a low dose of effixor which has reduced my hot flushes to nearly nought! So I have commenced on clonidine(catapress) it's usually used for blood pressure but works on blood vessels. It seems to be helping now I am on the full dose but I seem to be having a lot of headaches which is one of the side effects, it goes with a couple of panadol so I am in a dilemma should I continue and see if the headaches go or wean myself off and continue to be a a sweating mess !

Anyone who has been there please let me know how you got on. Any advice would be great.

Thanks

  • Hi Mich

Thanks for the advice I have been taking the catapress for nearly a month now and do feel the headaches are easing I have only taken panadol a few times. The sweating is definitely better but not gone but I have to decide if it's the weather too I live in QLD and we are having glorious weather at the moment!

Thanks for the name of another drug as I can always try something else if this fails. I will persevere as I hate the hot/wet/cold feeling.

    Glad you're having "drier" days!

  • Hi Sarah

I was put on Tamoxifin but then was changed to Femara because luckily for me it was also a suitable medication for me to try, (so my chemo oncologist assures me).  He has also given me a drug called Pregabalin should I continue to have problems with major sweats like I had on the Tamoxifin which at this stage (touch wood as I reach for my head hee hee) I haven't had......YET but only early days for me.  How long have you been on Catapress?  If it is only a short time then it may settle down but if not and you are struggling with the headaches I  would chat with your oncologist some more.  I know what it is like to be a sweating mess and found it quite debilitating so I wouldn't go back down that path it you can help it.

I wish you luck in trying to reach a solution.  Sweating or headaches, neither are nice to have to live with.  Please let us all know how you get on.
