Surgery yesterday - Start Chemo Mondy

Well, Ive ticked off another part of the list of things needing to be done. Yay!

I have been getting monitored for surgery to be sheudualed for egg harvest and preserving a part of one ovary. It all went down finally yesterday!

As it was a one shot nartural harvest I knew the chances of catching the one egg for this cycle were slim so it was no surprise to wake up after surgery to be told it has released already and they didnt get it.  What was a surprise was how much this surgery hurt!  We had been rushed through this part of the process and been told that recovery would be 2-3 days. Before going in the surgeon told me it would infact be more like a week!  I start chemo on Monday as in 2 days from now and sad that I will feel so sore as well as nervous.

I needed a drain put in for half a day and have 3 holes lapriscopic holes in me plus the drain hole. I wore in some trackpants knowing that they would be going in through my stomach but what I didnt realise was these holes would be all at different levels meaning my trackpants hurt like hell cos I couldnt pull them up high enough or low enough to avoid all the stitches. I was so lucky to have a nice nurse and she went and got me some scrubs to wear home! Talk about Harry High Pants but so so releaved to have them. Even wearing them today as they are better than my regular clothes. :)

I am missing out on a friends wedding recpetion tonight which sucks but I can barely move and really need to rest up as much as possible so I hopefully feel a bit better for the start of this chemo thing.

I did think I would be back at work Wed but now with this stomach I am not so sure.

Oh! And I bought a wig! I have a suspicion it is a bit big but will see how it goes. Only planing on wearing it for work. Have bought some cool beanie type things on ebay. $4 each with free postage. They are like a tube of streatchie material that can be worn about 5 different ways. I just bought one to begin with and now have ordered 5 more in different colours!  Might have to see if any of my friend know how to sew so I can have some in more fun patterns/colours :)

Have atttached pics just incase any crafty people want to make one for themselves - they are super cool!

  • Robyn has given you great advice about chemo. I am so sorry that the egg harvest did not go so well. It is enough just trying to deal with BC without the devastating fertility consequences for young women like yourself. It just isn't fair. Wishing you all the best for your recovery from surgery and with your chemo on Monday. Take care. Deanne xxx
  • I bought a few books on how to get through chemo easier - tips etc which I will ready today and tomorrow.

Got a water bottle which never leaves my side. As for the walks..... need to get into that. Wish we had a dog to walk! :)

  • I am sorry that your egg harvest didn't go well, and that you have so much pain.Hopefully it won't last long.I love the cool hat thingy.I had a very similar one that I bought from a little Asian hat shop in Sydney.Try not to stress too much about chemo,as lots of ladies,on here have all said that after the big build up to it,it's a bit,of a non- event!NORMALLY,for the first few days after chemo, you will feel ok,cause they give you steroids, that keep u up!Then the next few days you will have the fatigue that comes with chemo. These are the days that you should try to get out and walk,as it REALLY helps with the fatigue. Then the last week ,you feel pretty normal.Remember to drink lots of water the first 3 days to flush your system. All the best and let us know now you go.xoxCheers Robyn
