Surgery done waiting for radiation

Hi everyone, haven't been here for a few weeks due to recovery from surgery, which was on 2nd May.

Surgery went well except with the removal of one lymph node which swelled up and have had to get it drained a few times. Almost 4 weeks since I have had surgery and it is still swollen and quite sore. Being on antibiotics due to suspected infection as the area is quite red too. Really getting worried :-((

Have really good movement in my arm and shoulder but the swelling is right under my armpit which causes slight discomfort and stretching pain where the stitches are. Also the area is numb and have burning sensation along the inside of my arm down to my elbow.

My tumor was grade 2, 14mm with clear margins. Only one lymph node was removed. Had a sentinol node biospy day before surgery and wire excision on the morning of the surgery.

Estogren and progesterone positve, HER2 negative. Radiation treatment for 6 weeks and tamoxifen for 5 years. Have started tamoxifen and will be seeing the radiation oncologist on 11th June. Besides the lymh node removal discomfort I am back to normal duties for now. Hopefully won't experience any side effects from tamoxifen.  Cheers. xx

  • I didn't do Chemotherapy.....Radiation for me was a bit hard, I have fair skin & I burnt & blistered quite badly, the breast care nurses looked after me really well so don't be scared to ask for help if you need it, they are there to help you through all this:) It took about a month for my burns to heal after rads & I was extremely tired for a while as well!! My breast & sentinel nodes are still quite sore!! I'm still using moo goo udder cream morning & nite.. Hope all goes well for you....take care:) Christine:) xox
  • Thanks Christine. It's slightly getting better and may need some more draining. The area is still quite red/bruised. How did you go with radiation? I'm presuming you didn't have chemo.

    Cheers xx
