Sugery done and Chemo to start

This is mi first post. I had my surgery the 23rd of June, they removed the 3.5cm lump and I have the all clear, they also removed 20 nodes, only 3 were affected...Now the plan is 3 Fec and 3 Taxotere...I would like to hear if anybody knows a bit about the Fec and Taxotere side effects on fertility. I am having Zodalex (GnHR agonist) to protect my ovaries.

  • Thanks girls, it is truly great hearing from others.

I hope you understand, I am against anything that can hurt my body (and my so?ul) and that is why chemo sounds terrible for me. And as I said fertility is ver?y? important to me and my husband, ?s?o?u?n?d?s? ?c?r?a?z?y? ?b?u?t? w?????e plan to have 4 kids, and we only hav?e 1 ha ha!..I feel I dont have the tim?e, money and spirit to do IVF, thats why I am trying wit?h ?Zoda???????lex, t?h?e?r?e? ?h?as been ?a few researchs done and 92% of women using i?t have "preserve?" their eggs perfectly and the other 8% suffered only partial ????????????????i?s?s?u?e?s?.? ??F?i?n?g?e?r?s? ?c?r?o?s?s??!?!?!?!

I am feeling much better and I am hoping to see everything clear at the end of the week.?

  • Dear lovely ladies, thank you so much for your responses, they want me to star chemo in 2 weeks approx. I am still evaluating the pro and cons, and to be honest I am still not convinced...I need to be sure before doing anything because I perfectly know that fear and worries dont help when you have to take a big decision.

I am going to try everything and hear my heart and then follow it...

Love to all of you and keep smiling (there is always a good reason to be happy)

  • Hi...When do you start your chemo? I had fec and to tell you the truth...I can't remember what else..but that's a good thing. At the time I thought I'd never be able to forget! I didn't react well at all to Fec and my concoction of chemo drugs. But, as you will hear over and over, every case is different. I have my fingers crossed for you. Let me know how you go and if you want to know more. I did get my menstrual cycle back and really wanted another child but my husband decided that he wouldn't want to be left with 3 young children and no wife if this all happened again. (even though my prognosis was positive!) Life is back to normal now and I am 4 and a half years past diagnosis. I'll log in regularly to keep up to date with how you are going. Best wishes. Message me whenever you like, Lee. x

  • hey there,

In terms of fertility & FEC, I was told the FEC/Radio/Hormone program does put my fertility at risk & the only way to be certain I could have children after treatment was to harvest now & go thru IVF later.

Neither my Onc, the literature I've read, nor breast nurses I have spoken to can say which of us will resume our menstral cycles post treatment.  Right now the message I am getting by medical staff is that each case is different - they just don't know.

It would be interesting to see data on how many young women get their normal menstral cycle back after treatment is said & done.

    Sorry i cant help more.
