Hello ; i am 37 years old and was diagnosed with dcis back in 2010. My dcis was 5 cm, estrogen/prog positive, had lumpectomy followed by radiation and then of course Tamoxifen. Started Tamoxifen sept 2010, by november couldn't fit in my pants, always weight about 100 lb without even watching my diet, until then....Also, started having hot flushes, decreased libido (then NO libido/sex drive), mood swings, depression, anxiety, and right before i decided to stop Tamoxifen after 3 years and 3 month, i also developed an advance stage 4 of endometriosis, i didn't know Tamoxifen thickens the lining in the uterus, it was too late when i found out and had a laparoscopy. Anyways, needles to say that even when my husband is awesome, supportive, and loving, it can affect to any man having a wife with NO LIBIDO/SEX DRIVE, so that actually, on top of my fatigue and lack of energy, use of antidepresant, and lots of researching, i decided to stop treatment. You get the most benefit from Tamoxifen during the first 2 years, after that, the risk of bc coming back is not going to reduce for sure, while you have all this side effects, and them some. So, a few month (maybe 3 ) after i stopped Tamoxifen, i started losing weight, started to feel less tired, i noticed my libido returning slowly (not to it's fullest due to endormetriosis medication, but still ), no mood swings, no hot flushes, didn't need antidepressant (effexor, doesn't interact with Tamoxifen) anymore, etc ,etc etc...I still will continue to have my follow-ups every year, my mammograms, ultrasounds and mri, for the rest of my life, however i will not take this medication again. I can't describe with words the sense of freedom i experienced when i stopped Tamoxifen, and i highly doubt that it was psicological or anything like that, because i have my husband as my witness that all of the side effects will go away after you stop this drug. Of course there is a slight fear of cancer coming back, however it will always be there regardless of a treatment, since no doctor can garantie that there is no risk of reocurrence during or after Tamoxifen. So that's why i stopped taking Tamoxifen. I hope it helps and i apologize for any grammar error, english is not my first language as you can probably see : )
Thanks!!!
