Thanks Tanya. I think it is good news - the ovary is larger than 5cm but they are going to leave it for the next few weeks, get the mastectomy out fo the way, and then take another ultrasound and decide on a treatment then if it is still needed. I feel relieved and jsut need to keep an eye on the pain and if that intensifies, call them straight away. Feels a little like it has been put on the backburner but they didnt look too concerned as that helps.

Thanks for sharing your experience - it did help going in with am idea of how it could go - I think my expectations would have been different otherwise.

I have four kids - two teenage sons - 16 and 14 and a daughter who is 7 and a son who is 4, almost 5, about to start Kindergarten. I am chatting to the little ones about it all and have just found that book written for littlies so think I will grab that as a place to start, but my main concern is the older boys. They are already at the answer in grunts, dont discuss things in detail age :) so this has been interesting.I think the calm and in control thing has worked with the little ones and  lulled the older ones into thinking all is fine as apart from being tired, and  lots of doctors appts, not much else has changed yet. Its tricky preparing them without scaring them. Will keep trusting and researching and using the community resources - thats where the answers have laid so far.

When I was diagnosed in 2007 I went for the scans etc and they too found a cyst on my ovarie that was greater than 5 cm.  Initially they were not sure it was just a cyst, but after another ultrasound they were convinced that it was just a cyst and apparently they just leave them alone unless they are greater than 5 cm which mine was.  It was decided that I could not delay chemo and I commenced chemo with the view to keep an eye on the cyst.  I had another ultrasound/scan after my second chemo and they cyst was GONE.  I was really relieved that it had gone away on its own.

Not sure what your plan of action is, but thought that I would share my experience with you.

My eldest started Prep the week after I was diagnosed too, so hopefully you get a treatment plan so they can start school knowing that you are feeling more in control.  How old are your children?  Mine were 2 and 4 so not really old enough to know what was going on, but they do take their cue from you, so if you appear calm and in control they will feel the same too.

Thanks Leonie. I agree - I am trying to focus on one at a time so I can not drown in overwhelm and going off on a thousand different tracks. Best of luck with your husband - my kids are spinning a bit and fingers crossed I can get some answers before school goes back.
