Hi, the cancer was in the left breast. First I had a lumpectomy which was to be followed by radiation. Then it dawned on me I had a biotissue artifical heart valve right underneath, Mentioned it to oncologist who told me that was an issue & to speak to the radiation doctor. She said even with modern techniques and dosages, some radiation can reach the heart... & people with artificial heart valves are more vulnerable. Both said go back speak to the surgeon, who agreed that a mastectomy would be the best thing for my case. So, that was done. I'll be monitored each year, especially keeping an eye on the right breast.
The oncologist has me on Femara (since last August). Early days but I have no side effects yet. I wonder if the daily low dose aspirin and the magnesium tablet, prescribed by the cardiologist are also giving me some protection there.
The experiences of your friends makes me feel hopeful. Thanks for sharing them.
