Starting the journey

Hi Tassie girls.  I'm in Hobart and was diagnosed a few weeks ago with TNBC - the tumour is very large and I have started chemo to try to shrink it.  I still haven't had a "proper diagnosis" because its all been a bit of a rush but I am seeing the oncologist on Tuesday with a list!!  Its all so confusing and taking a huge amount to adjust - like planting my feet on the brakes and screaming to a stop, knowing that the new direction of my life is going to bring all sorts of experiences, both bad and good, that I had not been planning.  I know you will all understand that.  I've already been greatly blessed by people on this site, hearing their stories and seeing some light way off in the future.  But wanted to say hello to you as you are Tassie girls :)  Ali

  • I am not from Tassie (but I do think it is one of the prettiest parts of Australia) but just wanted to welcome you to BCNA. I am sure some of the Tassie ladies will be in touch soon but the beauty of this site is that we can get or give support no matter where in Australia or even the world we are! I am so sorry that you have been diagnosed but I understand your feeling that the brakes have been slammed onto your life. I was diagnosed last year with Stage 3 breast cancer and felt like I was in one of those movies where time stands still for the main character but continues speeding along for everyone else! Within a very short time you are learning much more than you ever wanted to about BC and treatment. But you will find that we are lucky to have some of the best treatment available here in Australia and I was amazed by the expert and compassionate people I met through treatment. I had a mastectomy, chemo and radiation and am now doing well with what I think of as my second chance at life. I wish you all the best for your 'journey' and hope that you find this site a tremendous source of support along the way. Take care. Deanne xxx
