Sore Head

Hey Ladies

Just wondering if anyone has found their scalp to be very sore once the hair fell out? My hair has almost all gone, it fell out in clumps.

I have a couple of sores that appeared on the hair line of the temple but the rest of the head almost feels like it is sunburnt. Any suggestions you have to ease this pain would be greatly appreciated..

  • Oh Tonya, so sorry to hear that you have to go through the journey twice. Where you given any explanation as to why it reaccured after seven years. So scarry, good to hear your are enjoying life. No 2 chemo went much smoother yesterday and I feel great today, hopefully will continue this way, but as you said "it rarely runs according to plan"

  • Yes,you never know what's around the corner on this bc ride - it rarely runs according to plan.I had a lovely 4 day holiday in isolation ward with an infection with my 1st chemo round. I've actually had breast cancer twice-2003 and then again in 2010.Both times were classed as early bc. I am fine now and enjoying life. Good luck for tomorrow-hope this chemo round is easier on you.

  • Hi Tonya, thanks for the advice, it really put my mind at ease, thought I had a brain tumour on top of everything else. I did try to reply but  obviously didnt press the right button so will try again to see how it goes. I have read many blogs in the past few days and have gained so much information, thanks everyone. Not looking forward to my second round of chemo tomorrow, but hopefully will be better than the first as I developed a chest and ear infection on day seven which complicated the situation.

  • Don't know about the headaches but my scalp was very sore when my hair was falling out.I just used sorbolene but some of the girls here used Moo goo. I had a bad headache for a few days during chemo - tell your oncologist so he can advise you on what to take.Welcome to this site by the way-it's easy to navigate once you get the hang of it.Blog back here for info and support -we have all been through or are going through this bc journey.

  • Hi all, this is my first post and was wondering if anyone had any advise for me. This is day 18 after my first chemo and for three days now my scalp, especially on the crown is so sore, almost like I have been hit on the head with something hard. Also have headaches first thing in the morning and before bedtime. I should mention that my hair started falling out slightly on day fourteen then stopped.

  • Yes,your scalp is VERY sensitive and sore  when the hair falls out. However,it gradually settles down.I developed an irritation /rash on my scalp at first and I couldn't stop scratching.Try to stick to cotton head coverings.I used to wash my scalp in cetaphil, pat dry then apply sorbolene cream twice aday. That seemed to help. It's all trial and error but what you describe is quite normal.
