I'm a single mum of 2 kids, they are 13 and 15. I was diagnosed August 30 last year. It's hard sometimes on your own, I don't like my kids to see me upset too much. Most of the time I've been ok but ive been through stages of depression and felt really alone. My family and friends are really good but at times it can be a lonely journey. I found it really hard making the surgery decision on my own and not having an advocate, so try to take someone with you to appointments etc.
I have just started on tamoxifen and it seems to be going ok. I have changed jobs and that was a real positive plus I started dating again. I never thought I would date again after the surgery as my body image was really low. I was surprised at how little impact my mastectomy had on the relationship and my partner was very understanding.
I wish you good luck with your journey and advise you just to be honest with your child in a way that is age appropriate and it should be ok.
Lots of hugs
