So scared

I think I've devoloped secondary cancer in my lungs and possibly in my bones too. I am terrified, can't focus on anything, feeling nauseous, can't eat. dry mouth. How do people cope with this? There's a small chance I'm wrong but everything is pointing to this. Developed a cough about three weeks ago that won't go away no matter how much vitamin C I take. Also got some tenderness on my torso - feels like  a bruise. Just been to the gp who has referred me for a chest x-ray this afternoon mentioned cough and sore rib on referral. I hadn't considered that the tenderness I was feeling on my side could be cancer-related too but now he's put it in those terms I am petrified. Diagnosis of early breast cancer was bad enough but this is 100 times worse. If it is what I think it is I'm gonna die - soon. How do you get your head around that? How do I tell my parents, my children? How will my dufus husband cope with everything? I feel like I'm about to ruin all these people's lives. Wont know for sure until I go back to gp tomorrow afternoon. Don't know how I am going get through the next 28 hours.

  • So important to remember that one step at a time. Just focus on getting through the next few hours until you get your results of the x-ray. I find the only thing that I can focus on at times like this is sudoku. TV and reading etc, are not enough to occupy my mind and stop it from racing off too far ahead. The other thing I do is go for a long walk. I'm hoping it will all be ok for you. Let us know how you go. Thinking of you. Deanne xx
  • No way i can advise--except that during radiation treatment one of my ribs was 'discovered' and commented on my team and myself--i brought it up to radiation dr who said unlikely it was anything but wrote ? metasties on the referral form--it was just a bigger rib but seeing the words on the referral form can be confronting--but just because dr raised it or wrote possibility..doesnt mean it is ..some of our symptoms seem to anxiety!

  • I feel so bad for you, try your best not to overthink this until you have some facts. Like Julia said, maybe watch some favourite movies and keep yourself occupied. I have my fingers crossed for you and sincerely hope it is not what you expect. Sending big hugs to you,

  • Hi Jandy,

I have not been in your situation but know how hard it is waiting for results for tests.  Try and distract yourself from thinking the worst by keeping busy, reading, watching your favourite movies etc.

It's just as likely that it is not BC.

When you get your results, if it is bad, then there are many resources here for advanced bc sufferers.

I have my fingers crossed for you!
