I don't believe you ever let go of the fear after a BC diagnosis but you DO learn to live with it. It's so important to have confidence in your doctors whilst, at the same time, realising that you have to be your own advocate. If something doesn't feel right or is bothering you, you need to speak to your doctors and express your concerns. Shirl is spot-on with her advice about being good to yourself - whatever you enjoy doing which provides a distraction is what you should be doing. Also, sharing your feelings with your family will allow everyone to understand how you are doing and help to support you and your fears.
You will be okay - we all get through it because we wouldn't chose anything else.
