So Annoying
Hi everyone hope you are all fairing better than me at the moment. Had my mastectomy 3 weeks ago and was just starting to feel sort of normal well not so sore, had it drained last Tuesday and then it...
Jacqui, you were lucky in a way that they took all your lymph nodes because it may have gone undetected. There is a 5% chance that cancer cells can be in other nodes instead of the sentinal node.I didn't want to take that chance and I had all my nodes(18)out 7yrs ago with my first bout of breast cancer. They were all clear and that's why I didn't do chemo then(only radiotherapy).I should have taken Tamoxifen back then but it so didn't agree with me.I was 47 at the time and hadn't started menopause.I guess I thought I'd be ok.I was shocked when it came back 7yrs later in the same spot -3cm growth within a year.Well I had no lymph nodes this time so they couldn't check. But my body scans were clear and it wasn't an aggressive cancer. Doctors talk in percentages and it appears that Tamoxifen will offer me a higher percentage of cure than chemo would. That's because my cancer was estrogen +ve.The 3 chemo drugs you are having together are FEC which are just the initials. What a pain you had cancer in one lymph node cos you may have been spared chemo treatment.I hope it won't be too bad for you. Most of the ladies here have coped with it.
