Show us your nuts! (Nude nuts that is...)
One of the hurdles I've had throughout this journey has been to show my nude head in public. But with these hot flushes, it can be so unbearable to have anything on my head, there have been a couple of times (including one today) when I have had to just take the hat off and deploy the hand fan!
I have found it sickening to go nude in public, and yet a little bit empowering. So I'm doing it here, before you all. Here it is!

I've shown you mine. Wanna show me yours?

Good on you Mich.
For walking the dog in just a bandanna, that is a BIG step for you, you were telling me only the other day that you couldn't go out of the house without your wig on and here you are only a few days later walking the dog in just a bandanna. HUGE STEP.
Pat yourself on the back for that one, YOU DESERVE it.
My little prickles are still there but I am expecting them to be but a distant memory any day now (my hair loss began on day 14 after my 1st chemo and I am on day 11 (well just - itis 12:45am :-) ) after my 2nd chemo. So far eyelashes and eyebrows still intact, but I have a chemo brazillian (almost complete).

Hey Joey
Lovely to hear from you. Thanks for the compliment about the full monty. I still not up for showing it in public but I did walk the dog tonight with just a bandanna on so for me that is brave baby. I didn't really think I had lost much off my eyelashes and eyebrows but I put makeup on to go out for a coffee yesterday (not been getting out and about that much lately) and I really could tell how much they had thinned out especially on the bottom lashes. My lil prickles on my head are definitely thinning out and I would say I will definitely be a true full monty after my next chemo next week. Here is hoping my lashes come back nice and thick like yours. How is your hair going?

Hey Shaz. Those straggling hairs pissed me off so much I bought a razor (Gillette Mach 3 of course!) and shaved my head. It put me back into control a little. If you get sick of them, I'd advise you do that :)

Yo Mich! You've got a great shaped head! I know I'm sick of people saying that to me and now I'm saying it to you but it's true :) I've started wearing make up just about every time I go out, otherwise I feel like a blank canvas. Are you also losing eyebrows and lashes? Mine are growing back extra quick, which was a real surprise.
How you feeling now?

There is nothing wrong with not being ready to be or show your baldness to the world. It doesn't matter if you are never Ok with it.
Some people are fine with it and some arne't I am lucky to be fine with it, I don't care, I really don't who sees me with hat or bald. I decided as soon as I was told at my chemo education session that I wouldgo bald, that I didn't want to wear a wig (I think they would be hot, itchy and annoying) and as I am not fussed about being bald, an expense I don't need to go for.
I don't mind the look of some turbans (well ok,1 turban) and scarves (a couple of styles), and beanies and caps (particularly the cotton sleep cap styles) and the like.
I have numerous knitted beanies (and like the more fitted styles, the best) - from the baskets they have at our oncology clinics and Heads Up @ Calvary (hat shop at the hospital I have my chemo at) that are knitted and donated for free for cancer patients; a number of polar fleece beanies (or a fitted style withor without turned up hems) - mostly from working in the snow for a few years,a nd for normal winter in Canberra use; two sleep caps (1 a thin cotton one, and 1 a thicker ?interlock?one) , I sleep on the thin cotton one and wear the other around the house - both free from the hat store mentioned above, theya re made and donated for chemo patients; 1 black 3 seam turban (the only kind I like) - I bought from shop mentioned above; a few scarves (most of which belonged to my husband Mum, and one I bought 2nd hand); and a pretty ribbon flower brooch ting that can be attached to scarves, and hart and turbans - also free to chemo patients at the store mentioned above); and a couple of hand fans (to help withthe hot flushes from the menopause the chemo is going to put me into - temporary or permanent is yet to be seen) - also free from the above store for chemo patients.
I have been VERY lucky in that we have a lot of people in Canberra and surrounds who make and donate hats, beanies and the like for chemo/ cancer patients and this makes things much easier (and cheaper) for chemo patients.
I was also given a free hand kitted lap rug from teh store mentioined (when I went there when my hair started to fall out (after my Look good Feel Better workshop) I came home with a bag FULL of free items, along with the make up etc I was given at the Look Good Feel Better, there was all of the items mentioned above (2 beanies, 2 sleep caps, 2 fans, a flower, a scarf, a couple of toher items from there free/ 2nd hand basket as well, to decorate turbans and a turban etc). So I think I am pretty well covered for the period of my baldness and regrowth and Winter here in Canberra, and I only bought item, although I think I will need another light cotton sleep cap.
Good Luck to you and maybe later you will go out without your wig, and maybe you wont and it makes no difference either way.
Stay Happy and Stay Well and take everyday as it comes.
Looking good, Joey!! I well recall how fraught I was about the prospect of showing my bald head. I'm a little sorry now that I didn't take any shots - like you've done - to commemorate my 'Sinead stage'. The closest I can find to a solidarity baldness shot is this, taken just after the hair started to grow back when the Darwin heat made my bandanas intolerable (hope it doesn't turn out huge!!). Cheering you on....

Hee hee that one is my real hair, if you go on to Facebook under my name Michele White you will see me with the wig at my daughters hen's night and the wedding hee hee.
I not good with going bald, I will around the house and in the yard and if I forget when I go out to the letterbox but I do really really struggle with the bald look. I will walk around in front of my beautiful daughter and hubby, in front of my best girlfreind and hubby and of my hubby but there is only a chosen few that I am brave enough to do so. On top of that I don't like the look of turbans, scarves etc on me so they are out as well. I am a bit limited and always put my hair on when I go out. I know I should be proud but it is sooooooooo hard. I guess I am vain. Maybe if it wasn't such a small lil town I lived in I probably wouldn't care so much. I wish I had the guts to do it but not yet, maybe in a lil while???? mmmm

- MelgMemberWas interested reading about all the quirky little pre existing conditions so many people have. I was diagnosed with MS ( multiple sclerosis) in 2004 after 12 years of odd things happening to my body after the birth of my second child. I also have rheumatoid arthritis. ... Both auto-immune diseases. A year after my MS diagnosis I left my children for the very first time and with my ex husband I trekked the great wall of china for 2 weeks with The MS Society. I needed to show that bloody disease that it wasn't going to slow me down. It was truly a life changing experience though I was physically and mentally exhausted when I returned home. I'm beginning to plan a special something for when my treatment is over. I want to walk The Great Ocean Road with my kids to show them cancer isn't going to slow me down either. I will raise $$ for the cancer council as well as Mission Australia. I work for Mission and they have been an incredible support. I plan to walk for 4 days early next year. I'm not sure why we are chosen as being the ones to be challenged by certain illnesses like bc but maybe it's to give us the opportunity to kick its arse and experience things we otherwise wouldn't.
