Shedding a tear

I dont believe there is cancer patient (or someone suffering any other illness) on this earth that can be positive 100% of the time.  We are allowed to have our 'bad days' - we have earnt them. 

'just every now and then I am saddened by whats around me in this 'new' life that i never asked to have and deal with on a daily basis....'    -    I back you 100% on this above statement.

This site is my saving grace.  Family and friends are wonderful but are not on the same journey experience that we are all going through.XLeonie

thanks for the kind words girls...i know all of this and have been reminding myself. A little under a month ago I had to say goodbye to another pal who was having treatment at the same unit as me, so i knew her personally as opposed to Nik who I only knew online, but I felt just as sad for both of them and their families.

Having secondary cancer just as they did it brings home the reality of what may lie ahead for me and my family. I am currently experinecing a period of wellness and really enjoying the freedom that brings (treatment every 3 weeks but not ill with it)....u begin to wonder how long this will last, when will the bubble burst?

I am generally a positive person and this has helped me overwhelmingly..the chemo unit staff all say the a positive attitude makes a LOT of differrence to how well ur treatment goes...just every now and then I am saddened by whats around me in this 'new' life that i never asked to have and deal with on a daily basis....

thanks again for the support and the opportunity to vent my feelings...this is exactly why we need this site

Hi there Samantha, what can I say that hasn't already been said?

While you grieve for your friend, concntrate on the joy you both shared through your friendship ... that will stay with you forever.

Can I share something withy you - and everyone?  It's a verse I included in my mothes funeral service - it is actually a dedication to the Late Queen Mother from her daughter Elizabeth

You can shed tears that she has gone or you can smile because she has lived .... You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back, or you can open your eyes and see all that she's left ...Your heart can be empty because you can't see her or you can be full of the love you shared ... You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday ... You can remember her and only that she's gone or you can cherish her memory and let it live on .... You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back or you can do what she'd want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

I lost my Mum four years ago and still miss her, but whenever I get the sads I read through this and it is a comfort to me

Hi Samantha,  Everything has been said.  My best friend passed away nearly 3 years ago from this disease.  I think of her every day however she keeps me going.  I gained so much from her.  Whenever I think about complaining about my predicament I remember her.  She never complained and tried so hard to survive.  I will never forget her courage and determination.  To "survive" her passing, as I was distraught, I put all my feeling relating to her on paper in the form of a poem.  It came so naturally.  With the blessing of her family, I read this personal poem at her funeral - it received a round of applause as it totally was her.  Her husband mounted the poem with a photo of my friend for me and it now hangs prominently in our casual entertaining area.  So that's how I got through the roughest time of loss.  Take care XLeonie

So sorry to hear of the loss of your friend, Samantha, but glad you have some lovely memories. Big hugs to you.

I know how you feel as I just lost a dear freind to cancer (not breast cancer). I knocked me for six. But as I pulled myself together, I started to think about all the great moments we had together and realised he was in my life for a reason. I miss him dearly but when I think of him, a smile comes on my face and i draw strength from his memories.

Jo. L is right - the pleasure of having known them outweighs the sadnes of losing them.  That is so true.  Treasure what memories you have and be glad that our 'friends' who pass away have no more pain and suffering.
