I have a lump in my breast ,been getting worse/ bigger.

Have had mammogram and ultrasound , told it is "fat lump". My Mum died aged 60 from a similar undiagnosed breast cancer. My question is , How do you get a scan or other test if the Doctor says it is "just a fat lump" . I have already lost 18kg in 3months and really feel something is not right. Who do I turn to for help?? Any advice very welcome . I am 53yrs old and had Uterine Cancer aged 36 .. Thanks .

  • Hi Sharon

This is crazy, it's your life and your body, even if you just go to a different GP and lay your fears on the line. You can get a referral for an MRI if you push. My case was similar to yours and I realised finally that sometimes you have to take control and really push. Go with your gut instinct, it probably is nothing but at least you can relax once you have investigated it further

  • Hi Sharon, I was initially told by a doctor at a radiology clinic that my lump was necrotized fat (or dead fat) after having an ultasound and mammogram. I was initially happy with that diagnosis but thankfullly my gp sent me to the breast surgeon to have it investigated further and I was shocked to be told no, it's cancer. Get it checked out by another doctor asap and ask to have a biopsy. Doctors do get things wrong! If you're uneasy - and it's getting bigger - see a different doctor. Good luck, I hope yours is only a fat lump. Janet.

  • Welcome to this network where you will get lots of info and support.I think you should get a second opinion too.Perhaps you could have a core biopsy of the area if another doctor orders it? Go with your gut instinct and keep pushing the doctors for answers. You have a cancer history so you need to be sure.

Good luck,I hope it's nothing.     Tonya xx

  • Hi,

I suggest you go to another doctor and see what they advise.
