Shaken, sad but safe.

Just wanted to quickly let people know that we were not in Nepal when the earthquake hit although 4 other members of the group were. They are unhurt but have no food, little water and are desperately trying to get flights out ASAP. Please keep your fingers crossed for them to get home safely. We got to Bangkok and heard the news. Have just returned to Australia today.

My adventure was not to be this time but our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this terrible event. Mother Nature is definitely in control and as we know life can take a turn for the worst without any good reason. At the end of the day you can be lying in bed and have a tree come crashing through the roof. Bad things happen but we cannot let fear limit our lives. I hope that one day in the future I will get to trek in the Himilayas. It is a beautiful part of this world and this was the worst earthquake in the region for 80 years. Just one of those things.

    Hey Deanne, so pleased you are safe and sound. My best friend was also in Nepal, they are safe as well and trying to get a flight out. It's such a tragedy and my heart goes out to all the people suffering. You will get there one day, I'm certain of it. Take care,

    Deanne :-( - I haven't been online for a couple of days and I have been thinking about you! I didn't know if you were already there, if you were on your way or yet to leave - but I am so glad to hear you're safe :-)

    UPDATE

    All of the group are now out of Nepal and home or on their way except for our trek leaders who have stayed on a few more days to help the locals. They are amazingly resourceful people and are helping to source supplies including water purification tablets for those in desperate need. I hope they stay safe until they make their way home.     Glad to hear you are ok.  I've been thinking of you and all the poor people in Nepal  What a terrible thing to happen.  I'm sure when it is safe you will be able to make your trip - it will just be a different place to the one you were expecting to find. Maureen

    Thank goodness you are safe and well Deanne.We have no power over Mother Nature,that's for sure.I am sure that one day you will get there ,if your determination is anything to go by!!! I hope your friends  manage to get home soon.Take care.Robyn xxx

    Have heard from Sharon's Mum that they are ok and helping out over there. Sharon has bruised ribs but they are such amazing people that I know they will want to do all that they can to help others. They will find it hard to step away and leave when everything is so desperate. Hope that they stay well as conditions must be deteriorating.

    Just saw your other reply on your blog. I am so glad you are safe as the devastation over there is unthinkable. I hope that Sharon and the others manage to get out safely. Thoughts and prayers with them all.
