Secondary Liver Mets

So, here I am after 9 years of NED, getting back into great shape, feeling fit and strong on my 56th birthday and so happy that my eldest son finished high school and turned 18! Then, bam... an annual blood test had deranged liver enzyme results, two days later I’m diagnosed with BC liver mets. The largest lesion is 4cm in section 5 of my liver with multiple smaller lesions in other sections.

My friend, a journalist, wants to write a book with the contentious title of, 'Cancer is a C__t!'. It is! Still, life goes on and while it does, I intend to be grateful for every day I wake up and see my gorgeous view of Sydney Harbour and the smiles on my sons' faces.

After the first week, spinning out that I wouldn't get my 14 year old through high school and planning my 'celebration of life', I've calmed down. I started treatment 8 days ago, went back to work, kept going to boot camp and enjoyed all the wonderful support from my sisters, sons, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. My only SE from Abraxane or maybe the DXM were 3 migraines, 3 days in a row from Day 4 after treatment.

I want at least 4 more years, so I hope to be blogging about my youngest son's high school graduation and my 60th in 2017! Living with mets is crap but it is possible to keep living and living well!

  • I am so sorry to read about your liver mets. I hope you are commencing treatment very soon. I have just finished my treatment for early breast cancer, but my young sister who had breast cancer four years ago was diagnosed last week with liver mets, she is just devastated as we all are. She starts chemo on Tuesday, every week for 9 weeks, hopefully that will help shrink the 2 large tumours in her liver I wish you well and hopefully some of the lovely ladies with the same diagnosis as you will start blogging their inspirational stories of hope and courage. Sending you a big hug, Marls
  • I have also been diagnosed with liver mets. Unfortunately, my ebc diagnosis was only in March last year. I have just started in a clinical trial drug, so we'll see how that goes. I have 2 children, 13 & 11. So I have a lot of living to do.

  • Am so proud of you! You have always been a strong and determined girl, and a lot of people other than your handsome sons need you around.  Cancer is indeed a #%^*!!  I've seen you in action!, and know what you are capable of in so many different aspects! and know how hard you work at things.  Use your powerful spirit and mind to fight, and we are with you all the way.  ??

  • Thanks Jenny. Good luck to you too with chemo, hope it isn't too harsh but does its job and gets rid of those liver mets. Your grandkids are gorgeous. We will both keep moving forward.

  • Thanks, Tonya. Yes, I have ordered the pack. Glad you have still contained your BC to the breast. Yes, I am proud of my boys, they are becoming beautiful and caring young men. i am one lucky mumma!

  • Welcome to this network but I am so sorry to hear your news. After 9 years of being cancer free,it would be such a shock to find out you have secondaries.I had my breast cancer 10 years ago-thought I was ok and then it came back again in the same breast 3 years ago.I was lucky in that it was still early bc but I live with the worry now that it might come back elsewhere. With all the latest drugs they have now, women with secondaries are living much longer. You have a great attitude and  good family support so you are already ahead. Have you ordered the"Hopes and Hurdles"pack from this network? It's full of helpful info. What a beautiful pic of you and your sons. They look absolutely gorgeous boys -bet you are proud of them. I hope your migraines go away and Abraxane is a little kinder to you.

               Sending hugs, Tonya xx
