The doctors wanted me to keep in the port but I actually requested that my port-a-cath was removed at three years. It was just because I wanted to return to some 'normality' and attending the clinic to have it flushed was making me feel like I was still a 'patient' and I didn't like being there. Of course, should I need further treatment I will just have another put in. It was wonderful when it was needed but I am glad to have had it out. I still see doctors every four weeks and will do 'forever' but at least this is in the surgery.
